Sedum Supply delivers results for NHS

Supporting building for the future, Sedum Supply partners developments at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth.

As part of an 18-month process, Sedum Supply working alongside architects and design team for Derriford Hospital has helped to deliver another successful project completing the new Chestnut Unit.

The new purpose built, modular building supports the relocation of the Chestnut Unit, and will provide new state of the art facilities for the Urology department and commences the start of the “buildings for the future” initiative by the hospital estate.

Sedum Supply worked closely with the development team to design and deliver an effective roofing solution bringing efficiencies, performance and added environmental benefits for the expansive structure.

Waterproofing Derriford Hospital Roof

Our GRO approved Sedum Roof System was installed to a newly laid EPDM waterproof membrane which was installed across the entire roof space to fully cover and insulate the building roof. The membrane will provide lasting protection for the roof space along with providing an effective base for additional elements to support a variable green roof installation. Drainage pebbles were also positioned in divided expanses to aid water filtering and support sedum carpet roof placements completing this effective roofing solution. The sedum carpet will deliver additional benefits from green roof placements to the local area, adding insulation efficiencies to aid overall building performance to support its designated use, and encourage wildlife.

Sedum Supply’s expertise aided the building design to maximise green performance solutions for the building to achieve wider benefits for its use in the immediate and longer-term opportunities. Our dedicated installation team ensured effective installation of a range of green roof and waterproof membrane solutions which can aid plans for this and similar buildings in the future.

The completed building is an effective example of how green roofs and our insights from design stage of any built structure can ensure proactive benefits and efficiencies during the construction process. Due to the increasing benefits of green roofs for environments, along with the additional building performance opportunities including insulation and temperature management to adopt longer term efficiencies, the Chestnut unit at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth is a great example of what can be achieved.
